Surface Piercings

Surface piercings refer to piercings placed on a not standard site on the body, usually with a specialty type of jewelry like a surface anchor or surface bar. Flat plains of skin with a minimum of day to day movement usually work best, such as around the eye, the upper torso, or the nape of the neck. There is a large risk of migration with these piercings and great care should be exercised that the piercing isn’t traumatized during the healing process. The actual healing cycle can vary widely depending on the location, but usually reaches full thickness in four to six months. It is not unheard of that a full healed surface piercing can start to migrate even after years inside the body.
